Little Rock Announces 2022 Cross Country Schedule

Trojans open season by hosting meet at War Memorial Park

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, Head Coach J.P. Behnke along with distance coach Joel Pearson announced the Trojans' 2022 Cross Country schedule Tuesday as Little Rock begins its inaugural season in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The 2022 slate is a front-loaded schedule that begins at home and features four meets in September before gearing up for the postseason, including Little Rock's first appearance at the OVC Championships. Little Rock debuts its season by hosting the Little Rock Open at War Memorial Park on Sept. 1 and then will head to Conway for the UCA XC Challenge on Sept. 10 as part of the Governor's I-40 Showdown presented by Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Little Rock makes its first foray beyond state lines on Sept. 16 when the Trojans will compete at the Texas A&M Invitational in a course preview of the NCAA South Central Regionals, which the Aggies host on Nov. 11. The Maroon and Silver returns back to the Natural State on Sept. 30 for the prestigious Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville.

"Our cross country schedule gives us a perfect opportunity to compete with the top teams in the NCAA and our region, and sets our family up with the ability to perform at our best in the November championship season," said Pearson. "Texas A&M, Arkansas Chili Pepper, and the Weis-Crockett Invite at Oklahoma State are some of the most competitive meets around the country. This is a great schedule for our strong group of returning student-athletes as well as the new incoming men and women who are excited to create history for the Trojan family."

The gear up to the postseason begins in earnest on Oct. 15 when the Trojans will head to the Weis-Crockett Invitational hosted by Oklahoma State in a preview of the course that will host the NCAA Championships on Nov. 19.

Making their first appearance the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, Little Rock will travel to Cookeville, Tenn. on Oct. 29 to test its mettle in the new conference.
