Â
Tournament Field
Little Rock will face a challenging field in its second event of 2022-23 as nine of the 15 teams competing finished among the GolfStat top-100 last season. LSU leads the way, finishing the year ranked number 11, followed by UT San Antonio (No. 49), Sam Houston (No. 53), Tulsa (No. 60), East Tennessee State (No. 67), Nebraska (No. 69), Incarnate Word (No. 77), Mercer (No. 81) and host Tulane (No. 87).
Â
Trojan Lineup
Head coach
Jenna Birch will use the same lineup as she did in last week's season-opener, anchored by reigning OVC Golfer of the Week
Agatha Alesson in the number one position.
Kellie Gachaga will play the number two spot with
Anna Dawson,
Katja Mueller and
Viktoria Krnacova rounding out the Little Rock scorecard.
Â
Last Time Out
Little Rock opened the 2022-23 season finishing eighth at the USA Intercollegiate in Mobile, Alabama, posting a 5-over 869 and setting a new program record for lowest 54-hole team total.
Agatha Alesson led the way individually with a 2-under 214, tying for 13th, as the Trojans combined to post five individual par-or-better rounds and one team round under par, a 1-under 287 in round three.
Â
Honors For Alesson
Trojan junior
Agatha Alesson notched a program-first, earning the first Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honor in program history after firing a 2-under 214 and tying for 13th at the USA Intercollegiate. Alesson shot a 2-under 70 in both rounds one and three, upping her career total to 11 par-or-better rounds, and registering the ninth top-20 individual finish as a Trojan. The 2-under 214 is tied for the sixth-best individual 54-hole tournament total in program history and the best since Emelie Blennow's 2-under 214 at the 2018 USA Intercollegiate.
Â
Record Watch
Little Rock etched a handful of entries in the Trojan record book following its performance at the USA Intercollegiate, highlighted by the lowest 54-hole team tournament total with a 5-over 869. Little Rock's 1-under 287 in round three is tied for the fourth-lowest single team round while the Trojans' 6-over 582 through the first 36 holes is the fifth best all-time. Individually,
Agatha Alesson (2-under 214) and
Kellie Gachaga (3-over 219) both set new career 54-hole tournament lows.
Â
Trojans Down in the Boot
This week's event in New Orleans is the first of two in the state of Louisiana this season and the first since last season's Tchefuncta Invitational in Covington February 21-22. The event, in which the Trojans placed fourth with a 39-over 903, was the first tournament in the Pelican State for the program since the 2014 ULM Fred Marx Invitational in Monroe. This will be the first time the Trojans have competed in a tournament in New Orleans since the 2000 Green Wave Women's Golf Classic as Little Rock finished eighth among the 15 team field.
Â
World Representation
Once again, Little Rock will represent a handful of nations across the globe as eight different countries are represented on this year's Trojan roster: Denmark (
Emilia Poulsen), Germany (
Katja Mueller), Ireland (
Anna Dawson), Kenya (
Kellie Gachaga), Norway (
Malena Austerslaatt), Slovakia (
Viktoria Krnacova), and Venezuela (
Agatha Alesson). Head coachÂ
Jenna Birch hails from England, bringing the grand total to eight different countries.
