Little Rock Set for Senior Day, In-State Competition This Weekend

LITTLE ROCK - The Little Rock swimming and diving team is back in action this weekend, celebrating their senior class on Friday in an 11 a.m. final home dual meet against Henderson State before heading north to race the Razorbacks on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Fayetteville.

The Trojans will honor five swimmers that each have been instrumental for the program due to their grades in the classroom, performance in the pool, and leadership on the team: Fernanda Gamez, Lauren Gray, Ashleigh Green, Annya Grom and Brianna Ridings.

"This group of seniors have truly transformed and owned what it means to be a Little Rock swimmer," said head coach Amy Burgess on the senior class. "They have gone through the struggles so others can prosper and have established team values that will carry on for years to come."

"Appreciation and admiration come to mind when looking at this group," she added. "We are forever grateful for all that they have done, and cannot wait to see where their journeys go from here!"

The seniors will be racing familiar foes Henderson State for their final meet at the Donaghey Aquatic Center, the second time that the Trojans have gone up against the Reddies this season. Last time out, Little Rock bested Henderson State by ten points in a tri-meet with Drury. This time around, the Trojans are coming off of a week of tough training in Florida, the team's training trip location this year.

"We just got back from a great week of training in Coral Springs, Florida," said Coach Burgess. "Our annual winter training trip is something we have not been able to do the last couple years, and this group reminded us what it is all about. Always rising to the occasion, these athletes have stepped up big time in training these last two weeks and we are looking forward to the last month of the season." 

The last month of the season will be a great test for the Trojans on the road, beginning with their trek to Arkansas on Saturday. Their second-ever dual with the Razorback is the first of four away meets this month as Little Rock uses this stretch to prepare for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in February.
