Little Rock stood up to the top team in the Ohio Valley Conference on Friday night, proving it was no pushover. The Trojans (7-17, 4-9 OVC) committed less errors than visiting Eastern Illinois in the opener of a back-to-back at the Jack Stephens Center, but the Panthers (21-3, 11-2) were simply too precise with their attack, resulting in a 3-0 sweep of the host team.
The Trojans played a pretty clean match and showed grit by hanging with EIU, but lost by scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-17. The Panthers hit for a .378 clip with 47 kills and just 10 attacking errors. Little Rock had one of its more efficient attacking performances of the season, hitting .143.
Little Rock had fewer setting errors, service errors and receive errors, and just 14 attacking errors. But EIU's efficiency on the attack made the difference. The teams will meet again tomorrow at 2 pm to close out the series.
Jeila Fullerton led the Trojans with seven kills and led the team in hitting at .238.
Bella Cherry had six kills while
Daedrianna Cail and
Daria Burrows each had five.
Dariana Valencia led the team with 18 assists.
Andrea Roman (8), Valencia (7) and Ryle McClintock (6) led the team in digs while Fullerton had a game-high four blocks.
