NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Little Rock Men's Basketball team lost 90-82 at Tennessee State on Saturday.
Jamir Chaplin led all scorers with a career-high 29 points.
Chaplin scored 24 of his points in the first half when he went 8-of-8 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line as well as knocked down a three-pointer. He also contributed a team-high nine rebounds.
Jaylen Crocker-Johnson recorded a career-high 16 points and brought down six boards, while
KK Robinson contributed 16 points including going 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Tennessee State opened the first half with a dunk, before the Trojans scored three-straight points on free throws by Chaplin and Robinson. After both teams exchanged baskets, the Tigers took a 7-5 lead on a three-pointer.
Both teams exchanged points with Tennessee State knocking down three three-pointers, until the 10:30 mark when Chaplin scored a layup and three-pointer back-to-back to tie the score at 20.
With 8:48 left in the half, the Tigers went on an 8-2 run to regain a 28-24 lead. Both teams knocked down baskets, before a layup and one by Chaplin sparked a 10-4 run for the 40-36 Trojan advantage.
Little Rock held on to the 44-41 halftime lead ending on two made free throws by Chaplin.
The Tigers opened the second half with two free throws and a three-pointer to regain a 46-44 lead, before Crocker-Johnson scored three-straight points.
With 11:26 left in the game a Little Rock turnover led to a Tennessee Tech three-pointer which sparked an 8-0 run to give the Tigers their largest lead of 69-60.
Little Rock etched into Tennessee State's advantage including seven points from Robinson, before a Tiger turnover led to a three-point play by Chaplin to bring the Trojans within two points at 75-73.
After a jumper by
Creed Williamson at the 2:24 mark, the Tigers scored seven to Little Rock's two to win 90-82.
Little Rock continues conference action at home as the Trojans host SIUE on Thursday, January 4. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. or thirty minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.
