Eight Little Rock Trojans Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

ST. LOUIS - Eight members of the Little Rock swimming and diving team were named to the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete Team on Thursday, an honor that recognizes their efforts in both the pool and the classroom. The Trojans honored by the league this year include graduate student Lauren Gray, junior Aubry Matthews, and sophomores Gillian Boggs, Jaelle Carlson, Olivia HendersonLucy Jahn, Caitlin Romprey, and Devin Trammell.

To earn MVC Scholar-Athlete honors, the conference requires athletes to have completed at least one year at their institution and achieve either:

  • a 3.5 grade-point average while obtaining All-Conference Honors
  • a 3.7 grade-point average and receive All-Conference Honorable Mention
  • a 3.9 grade-point average and participation in the MVC Championships

Despite the grade-point average requirements increasing this year, the Trojans still matched the same number of student-athletes recognized on the Scholar-Athlete Team as last season. Their 8 honorees beat out Evansville, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Valparaiso, and UIC, while no team in conference earned more than 11.

The MVC totaled just 67 swimmers and divers on the team in 2023, with 18 of those earning a perfect GPA, including Little Rock's Lauren Gray and Devin Trammell. The remaining six Trojans all boasted 3.90 grade point averages or better, helping the team earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Team status.

Gray was part of several relays at the championships, and scored for the Trojans in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Trammell posted season-best times in two of her three individual events, collecting a 400 IM time within the top 24 in prelims.

Aubry Matthews makes the list for the second time in a row, the only Trojan to qualify both last season as well as this year. The junior posted a stellar 3.96 GPA along with a season-best time in the 100 free at the championships.

Gillian Boggs and Jaelle Carlson both posted top-16 finishes on top of their 3.94 grade-point averages. The pair also each nabbed a school record in an individual event to capitalize on their dual academic and athletic success. Read about Gillian's record here and Jaelle's record here.

The sophomores are joined by classmates Olivia Henderson, Lucy Jahn and Caitlin Romprey, who also earned the Scholar-Athlete Team honor for the first time.
