Pectol and Williams Combine for Eight Hits in Loss to Ole Miss

Little Rock was defeated by Ole Miss 12-10 on Tuesday

OXFORD, Miss. – The Trojans led for a vast majority of the first seven innings and didn't allow Ole Miss to take a lead during that time, but ultimately fell to the Rebels 12-10 in an offensive shootout Tuesday afternoon at Swayze Field. The loss drops Little Rock's record to 25-17 on the season with a trip to Evansville, Indiana for an OVC weekend series against Southern Indiana up next.

Alex Seguine started off the game much like he has been over the past couple of weeks, with a hit to the opposite field this time going for extra bases as he cruised into second with a leadoff double. Following a strikeout, Luke Pectol stepped up to the plate and crushed his sixth homer of the year into right-center which handed Little Rock the early 2-0 lead after the first inning.

Ole miss responded in the bottom of the first with a homerun of its own, a solo shot that came with two outs in the inning, again out to right field.

Both offenses went quietly in the second inning and Little Rock starter Camden Sargent struck out two Rebels to lead off the inning before a pop out to Seguine following a walk ended the uneventful inning.

The score was evened up at two for just a few batters with Ole Miss scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning. Little Rock changed things in the top of the fourth. A base hit and double play gave the impression of another scoreless inning but four consecutive free passes, two via walk and two by hit by pitch, gave the Trojans a bases loaded situation and a 3-2 lead. Tyler Williams then proceeded to drop a single into right field to score two before Pectol doubled to right for another pair of RBI. At the end of the inning the Trojans were up by five at a score of 7-2.

Ole Miss continued to take advantage of the windy day at Swayze Field in the bottom of the inning, hitting two more two run homeruns to right field to bring the game within one run.

Little Rock gained a bit of cushion in the top of the sixth. A single and double from Seguine and Williams put runners on second and third for Pectol, who beat out a slow groundball to short for an infield single and RBI. With the bases loaded and two gone in the inning Noah Brewer slapped a single into left field that brought Williams and Pectol home and put Little Rock back up by four at 10-6.
The Rebels again cut the lead in half with yet another two run homerun in the bottom of the sixth and were threatening for more when a pair of strikeouts by Chance Vaught ended the inning.

In the seventh Ole Miss pulled within one with a sacrifice fly to left and in the eighth struck for three more to take the first lead of the afternoon. The Trojans were unable to make a comeback in the ninth and dropped the heartbreaker in Oxford.

Despite being on the wrong side of the scoreboard, the Trojans out hit Ole Miss 15-11 on the afternoon and led for a majority of the contest, four Trojans collected multiple hits on the day.

Pectol led the way in an incredible 4-for-5 game with three extra base hits in his first three at bats. The Little Rock native drove in a team high five RBI and scored twice.

Williams was the other Trojan to collect four hits, going 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

Seguine scored every time he reached base for three runs scored in a 2-for-5 game that also saw him walk once.

Brewer was the final Trojan to have multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with two singles and a pair of RBI.

Sargent was good in his start, the junior righthander pitched three innings and allowed one earned run on two hits while striking out two.

Up next for the Trojans is a trip to Southern Indiana to take on the Screaming Eagles in an OVC weekend series. First pitch of game one will be on Friday at 6 p.m.
