LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Head Coach
Darrell Walker announced the addition of
Cougar Downing to the Trojans' basketball program Friday, inking the two-time all-region guard to a National Letter of Intent.
Â
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound guard heads to Little Rock after totaling 1,454 points, 269 assists, 95 steals and 25 blocks at the junior college level, twice earning all-region and all-conference honors. He is the second signee for the Trojans that surpassed the 1,000-point threshold in junior college.
Â
"Cougar is an explosive scorer that can shoot with distance," Walker said of his latest addition. "He has the ability to create shots for himself and his teammates. A guard that can play both positions, he is one of the better shooters we will have next year."
Â
Downing started in 85 of the 88 games he played in over three seasons at the junior college level, first at Neosho and then at Barton. Over his two seasons at Barton, Downing etched his name in eight different program all-time achievements, most notably finishing with 1,162 points. That ranks as the sixth-most over the span of 55 years of competition that Barton has played.
Â
He signs with Little Rock after averaging 18.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals and posted a single-game junior college career high of 42 points against Odessa College while twice grabbing eight rebounds.
Â
Downing becomes the fourth addition to the Little Rock program this offseason, joining
Jaylen Crocker-Johnson,
Bradley Douglas and
Creed Williamson in the Maroon and Silver.
