EVANSVILLE, Indiana - The Little Rock Men's Basketball team recorded their first win against Southern Indiana with a 77-75 victory on the road. The Trojans had five athletes in double-figures.
KK Robinson led the team with his third double-double of the season with team-highs of 20 points and ten rebounds. He was just shy of a triple-double with a team-high seven assists. This is Robinson's fourth 20-plus scoring game this season.
Jordan Jefferson knocked down 12 points, including two three-pointers. Three Trojans scored ten points in the win with
DeAntoni Gordon,
Jamir Chaplin, and
Makhel Mitchell contributing the points. Mitchell's ten points was a season-high.
For USI, Jeremeiah Hernandez led all scorers with 28 points going 16-of-16 from the free throw line and contributed to the Screaming Eagles 93.3% free throw percentage for the game.
The Trojans shot 56.8 percent from the field compared to USI's 32.2 percent for the game.
Little Rock opened the first half with a jumper by Gordon, before USI answered back with a three-pointer. A jumper by Jefferson sparked a 7-2 run to give the Trojans the lead.
After a Screaming Eagle free throw, the Trojans scored ten-straight points, including six by Mitchell to take the 19-6 advantage with 10:11 left in the half.
At the 9:49 mark, a three-pointer by USI sparked a 10-0 run to bring the Screaming Eagles within three 19-16.
After free throws by Jefferson, the next four possessions for both teams was three-pointers with Robinson and Jefferson scoring for Little Rock.
Robinson knocked down a free throw, before USI used a 6-0 run to tie the score at 28 with 3:52 on the clock. Gordon scored on a jumper, before a three-pointer by the Screaming Eagles gave the home team the 31-30 advantage.
With 22.0 on the clock, USI knocked down a three-pointer to cut the Trojan lead to three.
Chaplin ended the half on a jumper giving Little Rock the 42-37 advantage.
Gordon opened the second half on a steal and a dunk, before USI scored their first basket at the 17:10 mark.
With 12:41 left in the game, the Screaming Eagles used a steal and layup to cut the advantage to 48-45.
Over the next four minutes, Little Rock used a 7-2 run with points from Chaplin and Jefferson to maintain the 55-47 lead.
With 8:06 remaining, USI knocked down eight-straight points including six free throws to tie the score at 55. After points by
Jaylen Crocker-Johnson and Robinson, the Screaming Eagles scored a three-pointer to cut the Little Rock advantage 59-58 with 4:39 on the clock.
Crocker-Johnson sparked a 6-0 run with a jumper, before USI scored on four-straight free throws to bring the Little Rock edge to 65-62.
A three-pointer by Robinson with 1:51 remaining extended the Trojan lead to 68-62.
Both teams went to the free throw line with Robinson going 6-of-8 from the line and USI going 8-of-8.
With 30.1 left in the game, the Screaming Eagles scored on a layup to bring Little Rock's lead to 74-72.
After a free throw by Crocker-Johnson,
Bradley Douglas had a key defensive stop with a rebound by Crocker-Johnson followed by a free throw for the 76-72 lead.
With 1.1 seconds left, USI drained a three-pointer to cut the Trojan advantage to 76-75. Crocker-Johnson made 1-of-2 at the end of the game with a last second heave caught by Douglas.
Little Rock continues conference action on Thursday, January 25 as the Trojans host Lindenwood. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. at The Jack Stephens Center.
