FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Kyra Apodaca represented Little Rock swimming and diving on the boards this weekend at the Arkansas Diving Invitational, honing her skills on the 1 meter and 3 meter with just one month away from the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. In addition, she also well had a chance to throw dives off of the 5-meter platform - the first time in program history that a Trojan has tested their skills in platform diving competition.
On the 3-meter spring board, Apodaca took fourth with a season-best score of 260.25 The junior placed fifth on the 1-meter board with 254.18 points, her second-best result on the low board so far this season, before taking third on the 5-meter platform with a score of 174.68. Despite not having platform diving at the Donaghey Aquatic Center in Little Rock, Apodaca showed a willingness to perform, even learning a new dive in warmups before nailing it during the competition. Due to no previous records found of any Trojans competing on the 5-meter before, the performance should go down as a school record.
"I'm really happy with the weekend as a whole," said diving coach
Chris Pape. "We came out and competed the way we wanted, and we took an all-important step toward where we want to be at the end of the year."
