Leilani Wimbish-Gay picked up the OVC Newcomer of the Week Award for the second straight week Wednesday after once again setting a career-high mark for scoring and helping the Trojans to a split in their first two conference games.
The 5-10, junior guard from Victoria, Texas had a career-high 17 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and a steal in a 59-57 win at Tennessee Tech last Thursday and followed it with 16 points and five rebounds in an overtime loss at Tennessee State on Saturday.
Wimbish-Gay has registered at least 11 points in five straight games, increasing her season scoring average from 3.9 points to 8.4 per game while playing 33 minutes per game. She has also grabbed at least five rebounds in four of the five contests.
