LITTLE ROCK - After dropping two straight road games, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock men's basketball team takes to the road again to play at 3 p.m. Saturday against the University of Texas-San Antonio. The radio
broadcast begins with the pregame at 2:45 p.m. on 106.7 Buz2 and the game can be streamed on ESPN+. The Trojans (1-2) try to halt a two-game losing skid after dropping an 80-63 decision Tuesday night at longtime, in-state rival Arkansas State.
ON THE ROAD … AGAIN
Little Rock embarked on a six-game road tour last week at Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. After a short overnight trip to Jonesboro up the road in Arkansas, it's off to Texas to battle the Roadrunners (1-1). The grind continues with a game at Tulsa Wednesday, Nov. 20 and then to Arkansas two days later. The six-game roadie ends at Champaign, Ill., on Monday Nov. 25. The Trojans finally return the to the friendly confines of the Jack Stephens Center on Wednesday, Nov. 27, the day before Thanksgiving.
WILKINSON WOWING
LSU graduate transfer
Mwani Wilkinson has stood out the first three games. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound forward is averaging 16.7 points per game. He was one of the few bright spots in the ASU loss, as he was the only Trojan in double figures. Wilkinson, a Las Vegas native, has made a smooth transition after averaging 2.1 points and 1.0 rebounds in 9.5 minutes per game last season for the Tigers.
SERIES HISTORY
Little Rock leads the series 12-5. Until the Trojans' 93-84 win over the Roadrunners last December, the teams hadn't met since Jan. 17, 1991 in San Antonio – a 90-84 UTSA win. Little Rock won the first game of the series, 87-67, in Little Rock where the Trojans are 7-1. Little Rock is 4-3 in road games in the series.
UTSA – FIRST LOOK
The Roadrunners lost 82-75 at Bradley (2-1) Tuesday night after trailing 48-30 at halftime. Poor shooting (34.8% field/20% three-point) was tough to overcome for UTSA, who did force score 25 points on 18 turnovers. Florida State transfer Primo Spears led the Roadrunners with 20 points. Spears, a 6-3, 185-pound combo guard, has scored more than 1,000 points with a combined three different teams and scored in double figures 43 different times before doing it twice this season. The Hartford, Conn., native began at Duquesne, then Georgetown before playing at FSU a year ago. The former high school football star, who played one season of prep school basketball, has started and
scored in double figures everywhere he's played. He averaged a career-high 16 ppg with the Hoyas as a sophomore. James Madison senior transfer swingman Raekwon Horton, a 6-foot-6, 215-pounder, has also been a nice addition scoring 15 points and totaling 6 rebounds and 5 steals in the loss to the Braves. Horton played two seasons at College of Charleston before heading to UTSA. Sophomore point guard Marcus Millender, a Houston native, began his career at South Alabama. He recorded 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists Tuesday night. UTSA, who blasted cross-town NCAA Division III Trinity (Texas) 103-77 in the opener, had its Nov. 9 home game with North Dakota canceled because an early blizzard that hit the upper Midwest wouldn't allow for travel to Texas. UTSA lost at the University of Southern California, 84-63, in an exhibition game Oct. 15. Austin Claunch became UTSA's seventh head coach in March. He spent last season as an Alabama assistant before serving as head coach at Nicholls (La.) State for five seasons where his teams won 20 games twice.
