EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Little Rock men's basketball team lost 68-66 at SIUE Thursday. Five Trojans scored in double-digits as
Bradley Douglas and
KK Robinson lead the team with 13 points.
Douglas went 5-of-11 from the field and 3-of-5 from the three-point line while also leading the team in rebounds with eight, all defensive. Robinson recorded a team high three three-pointers and led the team in assists with five.
DeAntoni Gordon,
Jaylen Crocker-Johnson, and
Jamir Chaplin each contributed 11 points, while
Makhel Mitchell recorded a team-high five blocks.
The Trojans shot 50.9 percent from the field and 56.3 percent from the arc, but committed a season-high 21 turnovers while attempting a season-low two free throws.
SIUE opened the first half with a jumper, before back-to-back dunks by Chaplin put the Trojans up 4-2. Both teams exchanged points, with Little Rock scoring on a three by Robinson and a layup by Mitchell, before a three-pointer by the Cougars tied the score at 9 with 14:54 on the clock.
Back-to-back jumpers by Gordon sparked a 11-3 run by the Trojans to gain the 20-12 advantage with 10:58 left in the half. The Cougars answered back with six-straight to cut the Little Rock lead to 20-18.
With 2:30 remaining, SIUE recorded six-straight points, including four free throws, to regain a 31-30 lead.
Robinson knocked down a three-pointer with 3.2 seconds left on the clock to bring the half-time score to 33-31 in Little Rock's favor.
The Trojans opened the second half on a 7-2 run including a three-pointer by Chaplin to take the 38-33 lead.
With 13:14 left in the game, Gordon scored a three-pointer, before SIUE scored nine-straight points to regain a 46-45 lead.
Robinson's five-straight points, with 9:37 left on the clock, sparked a 12-2 run for Little Rock to take the 57-48 advantage. SIUE answered back with a 7-3 run to cut the Trojan lead to 59-54 with 4:18 remaining.
Both teams exchanged points, before back-to-back three-pointers by the Cougars tied the score at 64 with 1:35 left in the game.
After a layup by Robinson, SIU knocked down a three with 15.1 seconds to take the 67-66 lead. The Cougars followed up with a free throw with 6.8 second left to extend the advantage to 68-66.
A last second three-point attempt by the Trojan fell short as SIUE held on for the win.
