Little Rock Baseball Heads To Murray State For Final Non-Conference Series

Trojans look to continue the hot streak as the Racers play host for a 3 game weekend series

LITTLE ROCK- Little Rock Baseball (11-6) hits the road for one last non-conference weekend series at Murray State (11-6). This series will be the final test for the Trojans as they head into conference play next weekend.

Series History
Little Rock has faced Murray State a total of 21 times resulting in a record of 6-15 in favor of the Racers. The series dates all the way back to 1986 where the Murray State Racers came out with a 4-8 victory. Despite a 21 game history, these programs are fairly foreign to one another as the last time they met was March 5, 2006 which saw the Trojans pull away with a 9-4 victory.

Scouting the Racers
The Racers enter the series 3-1 in the last 4 games with a series sweep over OVC opponent Lindenwood and a midweek loss to Kentucky. With 5 Racers hitting over .300 (Vogel .380, Garner .368, Hogart .328, Mercer .320, and Krizen .306), Murray State boasts a team average of .300 with 143 runs scored on 176 hits, 30 home runs, 74 walks, and 133 strikeouts. On the mound, the Racers have a 4.67 ERA conceding 94 runs on 143 hits, 18 home runs, 55 walks, and 147 strikeouts. This weekend Murray State will throw RHP Cade Vernon (4.98) on Friday, RHP Bryce Valera (5.87) on Saturday, and RHP Ryan Fender (5.27) on Sunday.

What To Expect
The Trojans enter the game on a 5 game win streak after a series sweep over Northwestern State and a midweek victory over Arkansas State. After dealing with offensive struggles early in the season, the Trojan hitters have found their stride from last year outscoring opponents 29-10 in the last 4 games. In light of the offensive struggles, the Trojans' pitching room has been on a roll with three relievers with a sub 2.00 ERA (Jacob Weatherley 0.61, Erik McKnight 0.69, and Austin Stubber 1.27). The Trojans will start Jackson Wells (6.52) on Friday, Hoss Brewer (4.35) on Saturday, and Thomas Kuyendall (3.57).

Little Rock is set to play Murray State on Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
