SEARCY, Ark. – Little Rock's women's cross country team had an incredible race where they finished first, while the men placed second at Harding's Steve Guymon Invitational this evening.
Aaliyah Joshua, led the way for the women earning her first champion title of her collegiate career on the rainy course.
FINAL RESULTS
The Trojan women claimed first place with 19 points leaving Harding behind, as they finished with 53 points in the 5,000 metre race. Joshua took the first place seed in a time of 18:06.1.
Kyla Lochtefeld followed behind taking 3rd place in a time of 18:18.6.
Abby Machesky and
Marcie Cudworth rounded out the top 5 finishing closely behind one another in 18:29.4 and 18:33.1 respectively. 3 more Trojans finished within the top ten;
Kennedie Rhein came in 6th into a time of 18:50.2 with
Panagiota Lazarou following closely behind and coming in in a time of 18:55.5.
Mackenzie Hendrix rounded out the top 10 in a time of 19:32.2.
"The main focus was on progressing nicely through the race and finishing strong." said Coach Hime, "The women looked phenomenal and ran as a total unit."
The men's team placed second overall with 42 points falling short of Harding who finished first with 24 points in the 4 mile race.
Andrew Payton was the first Trojan to cross the line in coming in 4th place and a time of 19:47.7, with
Zach Mcphee finishing very closely behind in 19:50.0 to take 5th place.
Nick Newby finished 7th overall as the final Trojan to finish in the top 10 , running a time of 20:08.6.
"Overall great job to the team tonight. We saw improvement on both sides at the front end and from a depth perspective. We'll keep moving forward, we'll keep working, we've got lots of time and lots to get done"
Little Rock will continue their cross country season at the Cowboy Jamboree hosted by the Oklahoma State University on September 28th.
