CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -
Nasir Bailey (133) and
Jordan Williams (149) crowned champions at 2025 Southern Scuffle.
Nasir Bailey cruised his way to Championship Sunday. Through his first three matches, Bailey conceded just 1 point, recording 2 shutouts. Match results are as follows:
- Bailey over Adrian (Brown) – TF 16-0 (3:39)
- Bailey over Reihner (Davidson) – TF 17-0 (3:16)
- Bailey over Guanajuata (North Carolina) – 16-1 (5:39)
Bailey's first real test came this morning against Kyle Burwick of North Dakota State. Bailey was battle-tested, but after securing takedowns in both the first and second rounds, he built a 6-2 lead, which he solidified with an escape in the final round to win 8-5, including an extra point for riding time.
After his first true test, the challenges didn't get any easier. Northern Colorado's Dom Serrano awaited Bailey in the championship round. After losing to Serrano in last year's Southern Scuffle, Bailey had something to prove. Both competitors scored an escape, sending the match into overtime. In SV-1, Bailey secured the takedown to be crowned Southern Scuffle Champion.
Jordan Williams showcased similar dominance at 149 pounds. He opened the tournament with a commanding win by pinfall against Oklahoma's Layton Schneider. Advancing to the Round of 16, Williams faced Zac Cowan from Bellarmine and secured a technical fall victory (19-4, 6:49) to move into the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Williams met Dayne Dalrymple, his opponent from the Mocs' visit to the Capital City last December. Once again, Williams emerged victorious, this time with a major decision, winning 14-4.
Williams then faced Wynton Denkins of Campbell in the semifinals. This match went down to the wire, with Williams securing a crucial reversal in the final 20 seconds to claim a 3-2 decision and advance to the championship match.
In the finals, Connor Pierce of Penn State stood between Williams and the 2025 Southern Scuffle Crown at 149 pounds. Williams sealed the title with three takedowns and an escape, solidifying his championship performance.
