LITTLE ROCK, AR. – Freshman Megan Stewart has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week following an outstanding performance at the Rice Fall Splash in Houston. Stewart continued to make an early mark in her debut season, collecting an individual event victory and contributing to multiple top finishes that highlighted Little Rock's impressive weekend showing.
Stewart captured first place in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:23.87, leading a strong field from start to finish and finishing nearly three seconds ahead of the runner-up from Rice. Her dominant swim not only marked a personal best but also solidified her as one of the top all-around performers in the MVC early this season. She also posted a runner-up finish in the 100-yard individual medley, clocking 58.33.
Her efforts contributed significantly to Little Rock's team success, as the Trojans tallied multiple podium finishes across both days of competition. Stewart's versatility in medley and breaststroke events continues to bolster Little Rock's depth in individual and relay races.
Stewart shared her thoughts on the honor, saying, "I'm really honored to be named MVC Freshman of the Week. I'm grateful for my teammates and coaches for all their support—it's been such an exciting start to the season! Being an international student it's my first time racing in yards and I've been enjoying it so much and not having any times, it's been nice to have a fresh start. I'm very excited for the season ahead!"
Head coach Nathan Townsend praised Stewart's maturity and work ethic, saying, "My staff and I were talking today about Megan and how she possesses that important combination of effort, talent, and maturity which is especially impressive for a freshman who's only been here a few weeks. Every day, she comes to practice with a genuine desire to get better and to encourage those around her to uphold the standards of our program. It's no surprise she's found early-season success, and we're excited to see just how good she can become as she continues to raise the floor."
Stewart and the Trojans return to the pool on November 8, traveling to Fayetteville for a dual meet against the University of Arkansas.
