Ball State (2-1) opened the season last week with home wins against Louisiana (75-64) and NCAA Division II member Mansfield (84-54). The Cardinals fell at Wisconsin, 86-55, Tuesday night.
The Trojans (1-2) dropped games in Milwaukee, Wisc., to UW-Milwaukee on Monday and Marquette on Wednesday.

• The Trojans made a pit stop Thursday in Chicago on their way from Milwaukee, Wisc., to Muncie, Ind. Chicago is the hometown of Little Rock Head Coach Darrell Walker. Walker took his team to the Art Institute to visit the Elizabeth Catlett exhibit. The team ate lunch together at Chicago's Home of Chicken & Waffles. The tour ended at Walker's boyhood home on the South Side.
• Little Rock practiced at the WNBA's Indiana Fever practice facility Friday afternoon.
• True freshman forward Terrion Burgess made a splash in his first collegiate start against Marquette Wednesday. The top prep recruit from Benton, Ark., scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, with 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
• Ball State head coach Michael Lewis was a standout prep star at Jasper, Ind., and played for legendary Indiana head coach Bobby Knight from 1997–2000. Lewis was an assistant coach for 18 years, beginning as a graduate assistant for Knight at Texas Tech. He later coached at Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Illinois and most recently spent three seasons at UCLA. He is entering his fourth season at Ball State, where he has produced one winning season. The Cardinals were 20-12 in his first year — the program's first 20-win season in six years.
• Ball State was 14-17 overall and 7-11 in the Mid-American Conference last season.
• The Cardinals were picked to finish eighth (out of 13) in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• Ball State has three players averaging double figures in points — James Elmore IV (12.3), Armoni Ziegler (11.7) and Davion Hill (11.3). Elmore is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound guard, who played at Ohio the past three seasons. Ziegler (6-4, 200) is a junior from Amityville, N.Y., who played the past two seasons at St. Peter's and averaged 11.1 ppg last year. Hill (6-2, 225) is a redshirt sophomore from Williamsport, Penn. He redshirted at Missouri State and averaged 14.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists at Northwest Florida College last season.
