CHARLESTON, Ill. —
Little Rock grabbed early momentum in Sunday's first-round matchup with SEMO, winning two of the first three sets. However, the Trojans were unable to capitalize, falling in five sets during the Ohio Valley Conference Championships at Gardella Family Court.
Little Rock (16-15) saw its season end with scores of 18-25, 27-25, 16-25, 25-16, and 15-13, while SEMO (22-12) won its ninth straight match and advanced to the semifinal round.
"I'm very proud of the players and how they fought hard during the match. The 4 vs. 5 matchup is always the hardest one," head coach
Van Compton said. "Matches like that come down to the last few possessions. It was anybody's match, and unfortunately, it just didn't work out in our favor."
Little Rock's three All-OVC selections led the way, with
Andrea Roman collecting 30 digs, six assists, and three aces;
Bella Cherry hammering down 20 kills to go with 11 digs; and
A'lanae Margaritha adding 11 kills and four blocks.
Crismeyli Rodriguez also finished with 12 kills and nine digs.
Dariana Valencia (24 assists, 11 digs) and
Kaylee Smith (21 assists, 14 digs) each recorded double-doubles.
Jaycee Kennedy and
Vivian Lucumi each contributed five blocks.
