BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Little Rock junior forward
Cameron Wallace continues his strong play in December, earning Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honors, as voted on by the league's sports information directors.
Wallace turned in a standout performance in the Trojans' 98–84 victory over Williams Baptist last Monday, scoring 25 points and pulling down 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. The 25 points, 10 field goals made and 38 minutes played were all season highs. In addition to his scoring and rebounding, Wallace added three assists, one block, and one steal.
"I told him the other day that he is playing the way we knew he could," Little Rock head coach
Darrell Walker said. "He's getting acclimated to the system, becoming more comfortable, and learning what he needs to do within the offense."
Wallace has averaged 16 ppg this month, and earned his second double-double in as many games. In a win against Southern Indiana on Dec. 18, Wallace totaled 19 points and 13 rebounds.
"[Redshirt senior
Johnathan Lawson] has been telling me to be more aggressive," Wallace said. "I've tried to do that more—especially attacking the basket and crashing the offensive boards. I knew I could play like this, and now it's happening.
"The biggest thing, though, is winning games. I appreciate the honor, but our goal is to win, and that's what matters most."
The Trojans (4–9, 1–1 OVC) return to league action Thursday as they host Tennessee Tech (6-7, 1-1) at the Jack Stephens Center. The men's game follows the women's contest, scheduled for 3 p.m. Tickets are available at
