LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock Trojan junior swimmer
Olivia Elgin qualified for the U.S. Open swim meet this past summer while at the Speedo Sectionals.
Elgin swam in the Speedo Sectionals in Columbia, Mo., this past summer. She placed second in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 56.74, which qualified her for the U.S. Open swim meet in Austin, Texas in December.
The U.S. Open Championships is one of the most competitive and prestigious swim meets in the country, drawing Olympians, NCAA Champions, and top international talent. The meet is a key stepping stone for swimmers aiming to compete at the international level as well as among the nation's elite.
"I'm incredibly honored and blessed for the opportunity to represent Little Rock at the U.S. Open meet in Austin, Texas, this winter. It's an amazing chance not only for me but for our entire team. Over the past few months, I've worked hard to grow both physically and mentally, fully trusting the process and the journey ahead," said Elgin.
Elgin also finished third in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:05.28 and fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:13.13. Those times did not qualify for the U.S. Open, but they were major personal bests for Olivia.
"I'm so proud of her and the hard work she's put in over the past two years. She's grown tremendously as both an athlete and a teammate. Her talent and commitment make opportunities like this no surprise, and I'm excited to see her represent Little Rock at the U.S. Open," said Little Rock Swimming and Diving Head Coach
Nathan Townsend.
Elgin is looking to bring the experience from this summer back to Little Rock as she aims to help her teammates succeed.
"This program has taught me a lot, and I'm excited to compete and give back to the team that's given me so much. My last two years at Little Rock have been filled with unforgettable memories, meaningful friendships, and valuable learning experiences that I am so grateful for. I'm looking forward to continuing that growth—both for myself and alongside my teammates—as we head into this season and I take on this incredible meet and opportunity!" said Elgin.
The All-Arkansas Invitational is set to kick off the 2025–26 Trojans swim schedule on Saturday, September 20.
