CONWAY, Ark. -- It was a brisk, cool morning as the Trojans kicked off the 2025 cross country season. It was great running weather, which proved useful for Little Rock as both the men and women finished second overall.
The women raced first and were hot out of the gate. The Little Rock women stuck with each other for about the first mile, then sophomore
Aaliyah Joshua broke away. Freshman
Eva Tice and
Maddie Cottier followed up in the middle. Joshua finished sixth individually, and the women took home second overall.
The men started 30 minutes later and picked up where the women left off. Graduate
Jordan Smith and junior
Shane Fisher started out fast, with freshman
Zach Morin battling right behind them. Smith was the top runner for Little Rock, finishing fourth individually; the men ended up taking second as a team.
"The women overall went out a little hot, but we stayed pretty consistent and solid throughout the race. It was a pretty good start for some of them. The men were pretty solid. Jordan and Shane were our top two guys, and they looked good for the first two miles," said head coach
Jordyn Naylon.
Overall, it was a good race to start the season, and coach Naylon is excited to see how the team does in future races.
"It was a pretty good start. I'm excited to see how we do for the rest of the season," Naylon said.
The Trojans' next race is the Steve Guymon Invitational, being held Friday, Sept. 12, in Searcy, Ark. It will be hosted by Harding University.
