Freund Earns National Recognition After Breakout Weekend

Little Rock infielder named to Baseball America Team of the Week after powering Trojans to sweep of Tennessee Tech

Little Rock's Nolan Freund had a breakout weekend for the Trojans, helping the team complete a road sweep of Tennessee Tech in the process. Today, he was recognized by Baseball America with a selection to the National College Team of the Week.

This weekly honor roll features players at every position, including the top-performing two-way player and four pitchers. While statistical output serves as the primary driver of selections, strength of competition and underlying data are also factored into the process.

"We're proud of Nolan and his development. He had a really great fall, which was recognized by Baseball America, but then had to wait his turn a little bit to begin the season," head coach Chris Curry said. "We feel like he's made some great adjustments coming from JUCO to Division I and is an impact player in the middle of our lineup, as well as a plus defender who can play anywhere on the infield."

In the conference series at Tennessee Tech, Freund started all three games, hitting .500 (7-for-14) with three home runs, seven RBI, and six runs scored. In the opening game, he went deep twice as part of a three-hit performance. He added a three-run home run in Sunday's game and recorded at least two hits in all three contests.

A junior transfer from Cloud County CC, the Kingman, Kansas, native has played in 21 games for the Trojans this season, making 16 starts. His season average is now up to .327.
