Joe Angolia begins his eighth season as Media Relations Director in 2012-13 after joining the UALR Department of Athletics in July of 2005. A 2002 graduate of Xavier University, he joined the Trojan athletic department after stints at Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky University. In 2008, he was fortunate enough to serve as the Media Coordinator for the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship First-/Second-Round games at Alltel Arena. In 2012, he served as Media Coordinator of an NCAA event for the second time as UALR hosted two rounds of the 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship at the Jack Stephens Center.
Angolia got his start in sports information at Western Kentucky University, where he began as an intern in 2002 after graduating from Xavier with a bachelor of arts degree in communications and a business minor. Following his internship, Angolia was hired on as a full-time assistant and worked primarily with the Hilltopper volleyball, softball and golf programs.
After two years at WKU, he moved on to Eastern Kentucky University, where he was fortunate enough to work with two teams which advanced to the NCAA Tournament (volleyball and women’s basketball) in his one season with the Colonels.
As an undergraduate at Xavier, he spent four years on the staff of the school newspaper, The Xavier Newswire, and served as the publication’s editor-in-chief as a senior. His time in Cincinnati also afforded him a chance to cover the Cincinnati Bengals as a beat writer for three seasons for The Football Network.
Angolia has been a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) since 2003. In July of 2006, he married the former Rachel Lee in Danville, Ky. The couple resides in Little Rock.
His responsibilities at UALR include serving as the primary contact for men’s basketball, baseball and both golf programs.
