Head coach Chris Curry announced the addition of Matt Farmer to the program's staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2016 season on June 2, 2015.
In 2016, Farmer helped the Trojans to their best-ever Sun Belt performance as the team finished third in the regular season while they recorded their most conference wins with 17. The Trojans hit .302 for the season, the best in the Sun Belt Conference, and broke the team's fielding percentage record at .975.
Farmer comes to Little Rock from Northwestern State University where he was a graduate assistant for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Prior to joining the coaching staff, Farmer played for the Demons from 2010 to 2013. Curry coached Farmer in his senior year at Northwestern State before he joined Curry on the coaching staff.
"I could tell when Matt was playing for me that he would make a good coach,” Curry said. “His knowledge of the game and attention to detail always set him apart. Having coached with Matt on the coaching staff at NSU, I am excited about the working relationship we already have and the familiarity Matt has with our system, especially on the pitching side. He is extremely smart and has a sharp mind for the game. He is a quality character individual, and he is going to be an outstanding addition to our staff here in Little Rock.”
Farmer will handle first base coaching duties in addition to helping out with pitching.
"As much as we hate to see Matt move on from a selfish standpoint, I couldn't be more proud to see him continue to grow under Chris and his staff,” Northwestern State head coach Lane Burroughs said. "Matt did an outstanding job for us in his two years on our staff. What he lacked in experience, he more than made up for with intelligence and work ethic. We put him in charge of some important areas and he was always one step ahead. He will continue to grow and he has a bright future in coaching. We wish Matt all the best in Little Rock.”
