Rand Champion is in his sixth season as Little Rock's Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications joining the department in July 2017. He serves as the primary sport contact for the Trojan men's basketball, baseball and golf programs while overseeing the day-to-day communication efforts of the department as well as serving as a member of the department's senior staff.

During Champion's time in Little Rock, he has helped promote the successes of the Trojan athletic department, including the 2019-20 men's basketball team's run to the Sun Belt championship as well as men's golf capturing the 2021-22 Sun Belt title and back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances, qualifying for the program's first-ever NCAA Championship berth in 2021.

In addition to his sport responsibilities, Champion serves as the department spokesperson, coordinating releases and media responsibilities for major department announcements such as the Trojans' addition of wrestling in 2018 and Little Rock's move to the Ohio Valley Conference, effective July 1, 2022. He also maintains oversight of the Trojans' ESPN+ productions as well as Little Rock's social media, branding and marketing efforts.
 
Champion joins the Trojans after spending the previous three and a half years as Director of Media Relations at Stephen F. Austin. He was the primary media contact for football, men’s and women’s golf and bowling while overseeing the media relations department and promotion of SFA’s 17 athletic programs.
 
In his time with the Lumberjacks, Champion oversaw the promotional efforts for three-straight men's basketball NCAA tournament appearances, an NCAA FCS playoff appearance in football as well as the 2016 NCAA bowling national champions, the first-ever in SFA department history.
 
Prior to his time in Nacogdoches, Champion spent three years as the Director of Athletic Media Relations at Texas A&M-Commerce. At Commerce, he oversaw the media efforts for all 12 Lion athletic programs, serving as the primary media contact for football, men's basketball, volleyball, golf and softball.
 
Before returning to Texas, Champion spent three years at Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., serving as the primary contact for the seven-time national champion Wildcat women’s lacrosse team in addition to the nationally-ranked Northwestern volleyball, fencing and golf programs. He assisted with game-day responsibilities for football and basketball with the Big Ten-member Wildcats.
 
He worked at North Dakota State from 2007-08, serving as primary contact for the Bison soccer, golf and wrestling teams. He assisted with game-day responsibilities for football and basketball, including the No. 1-ranked NDSU football team in 2007.
 
During the baseball season, Champion assists with game day statistical operations for the Arkansas Travelers, the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. He has also served as a member of the media relations staff for both the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl and Heart of Dallas Bowl for six years as well as being involved with numerous NCAA postseason events.
 
He has served internships with the Tennessee Titans, Vanderbilt University and Tennessee State University.
 
Champion's career in media began in broadcasting as he spent three years in a number of roles at KZTV 10, the CBS affiliate in Corpus Christi, Texas.
 
A native of Sandy, Utah, Champion earned his bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism from Brigham Young University in 2002. He attained his master's degree in Sport Administration from Belmont University in 2007.
