2005-06 (As a Junior): Appeared in two games before taking a medical redshirt ... Made his first appearance as a Trojan against Appalachian State (Dec. 20) in the Jack Stephens Center ... Sank his first shot as a Division-I player (a three pointer) in front of the hometown fans ... Played eight minutes in UALR’s following contest at Southern Illinois (Dec. 22) before sitting out the rest of the season ... Averaged 1.5 points and nine minutes per game over the two contests, while going 1-for-3 from three-point range.
Holmes Community College: Joined the Trojans from Holmes Community College in Goodman, Miss., where he topped 1,000 career points in just two seasons ... A two-time First-Team All-Conference selection under head coach Todd Kimble ... Was twice named First Team All-State for Mississippi junior colleges ... Named Co-Freshman of the Year after averaging 19.6 points per game in his first year ... In addition to his scoring abilities, Akins hit on 46 percent of his attempts from the field, 36 percent from beyond the arc and 72.6 percent from the free-throw line, while averaging 5.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.2 steals per game to help the Bulldogs to a 17-9 overall record and a second place conference finish (10-2) ... Scored 34 and 30 points in two games against Northwest Mississippi Community College and current Trojan Byron Ray ... Assistant coach Wes Flannigan was on the staff at NW Mississippi before coming to UALR ... As a sophomore, Akins averaged 21.6 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals per game.
Little Rock Parkview HS: Named to the 2003 All-Arkansas Team by the Arkansas Deomcrat-Gazette after averaging 16 points per game ... The All-Arkansas Team that year included current Trojan teammate Brandon Patterson and former Arkansas Razorback Ronnie Brewer ... Was a runner-up for the state’s Mr. Basketball award as a senior ... Played under head coach Al Flanigan at Parkview, father of UALR assistant coach Wes Flanigan ... A First-Team All-State selection, who led Parkview to the Arkansas state title in 2002 ... Also earned most valuable player honors at a high school all-star game following his senior season.
