  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Former UALR All-American Leo Settle returned to UALR in January 2005 as an assistant track and cross country coach.

In 2005, Settle helped coach All-American Chris Johnson to a sixth place finish in the 100-meters at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track Championships.

Settle, who holds the UALR record in the indoor 200 and 400 meters, also won eight individual Sun Belt Conference titles in 1997-98, and was also part of the league championship 4-by-100-meter relay team in '98 as well. He is the only athlete to win all three sprints -- the 55-, 200-  and 400-meters -- at a single conference championship meet, as he did at the 1998 indoor competition. He was named the meet's Most Outstanding Performer and Top Scorer for that performance.

In 2005, Settle competed on the USA 4x100 meters relay team at the Modesto Relays.  The team place second in a time of 38.90.

Settle, a native of Los Angeles, graduated from UALR with a degree in health sciences in 1999. He was an USA Olympic Trials qualifier in 2000 and 2004, and competed in Grand Prix meets and other international competition in Europe for five seasons.

Since 2000, he has been a volunteer assistant on the staff of head track coach Bob Kitchens at the University of Texas-El Paso. At UTEP, Settle coached Sam Singleton to a 45.9-second time in the 400 meters and helped the Miners' 4-by-100 team qualify for NCAA finals in 2000, '01 and '02. While Settle was an assistant, the squad recorded a school-record time of 38.98.

Settle graduated from Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, and Long Beach City College before coming to UALR. He has one daughter, Champagne Thomas-Settle.
