Michael Gibbs joined the Little Rock Athletic Department in May of 2021 as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.
Gibbs comes to Little Rock after spending nearly two years as the Director of Compliance at Florida International University, beginning in August of 2019. During his time in Miami, Gibbs oversaw all eligibility operations of the compliance office and ensured NCAA rules and regulations were being followed.
Prior to his time at Florida International, Gibbs spent nearly eight years at Old Dominion University, beginning as a Compliance Assistant from October 2011 until June 2013 before being promoted to Academic Compliance Coordinator, a role he filled until leaving for FIU in July 2019.
During his time at ODU, Gibbs was the central contact to the registrar’s office for monitoring initial and continuing eligibility of all student-athletes, as well as serving as the primary contact to International Admissions for all incoming international student-athletes. He assisted the department with a number of compliance-related activities, including practice logs, National Letters of Intent and recruiting guidance for coaches.
Gibbs served as the Chair of International Appeals on the Division I Initial Eligibility Waiver Committee from January through May of 2021. He also served as an ambassador for the National Association of Athletic Compliance, as well as a member of the policies and procedures committee at Florida International.
Gibbs earned his bachelor’s degrees in both sport management and kinesiology from Southern Indiana in 2011 and attained his master’s degree in sport management from Old Dominion in 2013, earning distinction as a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society.
