Malcom Wins Kevin A. Crass Heart of a Trojan Award

LITTLE ROCK – Senior Cory Malcom was announced as the inaugural winner of the Kevin A. Crass Heart of a Trojan Award at Monday's Senior Honors Luncheon. Malcom won the award based on community service, leadership and dedication to his team.

"It's just a great honor," Malcom said of the award. "It's awesome to represent Little Rock's Team in that way."

A team captain, Malcom has totaled 89 strikeouts over 73.1 innings pitched in 2017. He won the second Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week award of his career on Feb. 28 following an 11-strikeout performance against Purdue.

The Elkhart, Ind., native has been involved with numerous community service projects since joining the Trojans, including The Miracle League of Arkansas, Race for the Cure and Team Impact.

"This place is home now," Malcom said of Little Rock. "I've been here for four years and it will be great to look back on. I'll be able to tell my kids and grandkids that I went to a university that I really enjoyed."

The award's namesake, Kevin Crass, is an avid supporter, ambassador, community leader and benefactor. He joined Ray Tucker on the Little Rock men's basketball radio broadcasts in 2016-17 and recently finished a two-year term as chair of the Trojan Advisory Council.

"It's a great honor," Crass said of having the award bear his name. "But it's not about me today. It's about these seniors, and I'm here today to say congratulations to you for accomplishing a great deal. I also want to say thank you. As a fan of the Trojans for 25-plus years, it's a real joy to be a part of this program."
