LITTLE ROCK - Little Rock continues its season-long eight-game road swing, making the short trip over to Pine Bluff to take on the UAPB Golden Lions for a Tuesday afternoon game, starting at 3 p.m. at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
Â
The Trojans still hold a half-game lead in the Sun Belt Western division, even after dropping two of three in Lafayette, Louisiana, last weekend. They currently sit at 21-17 overall while going 10-7 in conference, holding a half game edge on both the Ragin' Cajuns and UT Arlington.
Â
Once Moore On the Mound:
Trojan sophomore
McKinley Moore will get his second start in two weeks for the Trojans. In last week's midweek matchup versus Northwestern State, Moore began the game with some fire by striking out five of his first six batters faced. He ended the day throwing four and a third innings while giving up three runs.
Â
This will be his fourth start overall and his seventh appearance on the year where he has held an ERA just north of nine in 12.1 innings pitched.
Â
Scouting Arkansas Pine-Bluff:
The Golden Lions have found some rhythm of late, holding a three-game winning streak and taking five of their last seven. Their most recent outings at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex was a sweep over Oklahoma Panhandle State where they held the Aggies to just one run in each game, scoring 21 total of their own.
Â
The Golden Lions have five players that are currently hitting over .300 and hit .260 as a team, but their pitching staff has given up an earned-run average of 6.45.
Â
Series Against Arkansas Pine-Bluff:
The Trojans have a substantial grasp in the series against the Golden Lions winning 21 of the 26 games, but this will only be the third meeting under the Curry era. The Trojans took the first matchup 7-2 in 2016, but UAPB bested Little Rock last season 2-1.
Â
The last time the Trojans traveled to Pine-Bluff to play was in 2014 for a home-and-home series, falling to the Golden Lions 6-5. The last win in Pine-Bluff dates all the way back to 2011 when Little Rock won 12-5.
Â
Nine-Innings Not Enough:
Little Rock faced off in their fifth extra-innings game last time out against Louisiana. The certain looming feeling of a sweep was on as the Trojans were trailing 6-4 in the ninth inning against the Ragin' Cajuns.
Â
The Trojans scored twice in the ninth inning to extend the game and then brought around three runs in the top of the 11th to take a 9-7 win over Louisiana.
Â
Chase Coker found his hitting rhythm going 4-for-5, scoring all four times reaching base in the game and also added his third home run of the year.
Â
Rounding Out the Road Trip:
Little Rock will head to Boone, North Carolina, to finish off their eight-game road trip against Appalachian State in a three game-series, beginning Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
