Stambersky named manager of Alaska Baseball League team
July 15, 2002
UALR
assistant baseball coach Damian Stambersky has been named manager of the
Peninsula Oilers of the Alaska Baseball League, replacing Brian Green who
resigned.
Green, who had been the hitting coach at the University of San Diego,
resigned his duties with the Oilers because of commitments to his new job
in a similar position with the University of Hawaii.
This is Stambersky's second summer with the Oilers where his duties
included coordinating defensive positioning, hitting and weight training.
Stambersky has been an assistant with the UALR program since 1999
after completing a solid two-year playing career with the Trojans.
The Oilers won Stambersky's debut with a 3-1 victory over the
Fairbanks Gold Panners on July 11.
The
Alaska Baseball League is regarded as one of the most prestigious summer
leagues in the nation, producing many future Major Leaguers including Mark
McGuire, Randy Johnson, Tom Seaver, Barry Bonds and Jason Giambi.
