Roigas wins singles title at Ragin' Cajuns Classic

Freshman Rain Roigas defeated Josey Trimmien 6-2, 6-2 to cap a dominating performance over the weekend, to take the Flight B singles title at the 2004 Hibernia Ragin' Cajuns Tennis Classic at the Cajun Courts in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Roigas and teammates Tim Walter and Karlis Miljons were the lone representatives for the Trojans at the tournament, but posted some very solid results, combining for a total of ten victories.

On his title run, Roigas defeated Wesley Arnold of Lamar 6-0, 6-1, and Danny Leavy of Tulane 6-4, 6-2 in the first two rounds. In the quarterfinals, Roigas defeated Johnathan Howard of LSU to earn a trip to the Semifinals where he would face off with fellow Trojan Walter. Roigas would take the win over Walter 7-5, 6-3 and would advance to the final where he took an easy victory over Trimmien to take the title.

Before facing Roigas in the semi-finals, Walter had a successful tournament of his own, taking a 6-3, 6-3 win over Paul Birkett of Southeastern Louisiana in the second round and a win over Ian Vazquez of Texas-Arlington in the quarterfinals.

Miljons took an easy victory in the second round over conference opponent Dustin Musso of Louisiana-Lafayette 6-2, 6-1 before falling 7-5, 6-3 Saif Ali of New Orleans in the quarterfinals.

Roigas and Walter teamed to advance to the finals of the Flight B doubles competition with wins over Tyler Cobb and Wesley Arnold of Lamar (8-1) and Ian Vazques and Trimmien of Texas Arlington (8-2), before falling to Kyle Mims and Alberto Agis of Texas Arlington (8-6).

The women's team will send Jenna Hirdle, Katie Prokop and Laetitia Bourgeon to compete in the women's portion of the tournament that will take place this weekend in Lafayette, Louisiana.
