Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?After shooting only 26 percent from the floor in the first half, the University of Arkansas-Little Rock women's basketball team surged in the second half shooting 60 percent from the floor and knocking down 21 points to win their second game of the season 73-48 over Centenary at the Jack Stephens Center Tuesday.
“In the second half, we had patience,” said head coach Joe Foley. “We were getting the ball inside and letting Renee touch the ball. It's not all about scoring. You still have to get the ball in the paint to be a good ball club. We quit shooting on the first pass, because that doesn't give you any opportunities. We really slowed down and showed some patience and confidence in our offense. Jocelyn got hot, and Renee kept scoring.”
Freshman Renee Renz led in scoring for both teams recording her first double-double with a career and game high of 23 points and 12 rebounds. She shot 6 of 11 from the floor and 11 of 14 from the foul line.
Freshman Ashley Johnson contributed her second double-digit game with 14 points, while sophomore Heather Morris contributed eight assists.
Junior Jocelyn Love scored 10 points including two threes in the second half to total 13 points on the night.
In the first half, UALR and Centenary combined for only 44 points.
The lead changed hands several times in the beginning minutes until a made layup by Renz and a three-pointer by Love sparked the Trojan offense to go on a five point run.
Centenary knocked down a three and a jumper to come with six with 56 seconds left in the half, but Johnson knocked in two free throws to give UALR the 26-18 lead.
The Trojans offense blazed in the opening minutes of the second half going on a 6-0 run and gaining a 14 point lead.
Centenary hit a three-point shot to inch closer, but UALR would steadily climb to a 33 point lead with 8:44 remaining.
The Ladies scored five unanswered points to bring the score to 72-44 with 2:10 remaining, but UALR's defense and offense kept their momentum going and closed out their second consecutive win.
