Trojans Upset Oklahoma State 64-54

STILLWATER, Okla.-For the first time in school history, the University of Arkansas-Little Rock women's basketball team upset Oklahoma State 64-54 at the Gallagher-Iba Arena Tuesday.  The Trojans won for the first time at a Big 12 school arena.

 

Heather Morris led the team with a season high of 20 points going 6 of 10 from the floor, 4 of 5 from the arc, and 4 of 6 from the charity stripe.

 

Renee Renz recorded her second collegiate double-double with 16 points and a game high of 11 rebounds, while Jocelyn Love contributed 12 points including two threes.

 

In the first half, UALR forced 13 turnovers and scored 20 points off of turnovers, while OSU recorded no steals and no points off of turnovers.

 

The Cowgirls started with a 6-0 run, before Love knocked in a jumper at the 16:29 mark to end UALR's 0-5 mark.

 

Love scored the Trojans next points with a three-point shot to narrow the lead to one.

 

After a jumper by Shaunte' Smith for Oklahoma State, Renz gave UALR their first lead of the game 8-7 on a fade away jump shot.

 

Whitney Pegram tied the score on a free throw before Jessica Brown's jumper regained the lead for the Trojans.

 

Oklahoma State answered back with a layup before a three pointer by Morris gave UALR the 14-11 advantage.

 

At the 12:47 mark, Pegram scored with a jumper for the Cowgirls before the Trojans scored 11 straight points on three-pointers by Love and Morris, a jumper by Rachel Smith, and free throws by Renz.

 

At the 6:50 mark, the Cowgirls scored on a layup by Smith to bring the score to 24 -15.

 

UALR knocked in 12 consecutive points, before Brisa Silva scored six points on two long three-points to narrow the point spread 38-23.

 

The Cowgirls knocked in two free throws before the half-time buzzer to send the Trojans into the locker room with a 13 point lead.

 

OSU started the first half with five straight points on a jumper by Pegram and a three by Silva.

 

Morris's jumper edged the Trojans back to a 10 point lead, but the Cowgirls knocked in five more points to close the lead to five with 16:18 remaining.

 

After jumpers by Brown and Morris, Oklahoma State knocked in six straight points to tie the score at 44.

 

Laura Throesch made her first collegiate three-pointer at the 10:53 mark to regain the lead for the Trojans.

 

Free throws and a three-pointer by Morris and a jumper by Renz expanded the Trojans lead to 53-46 with 7:05 remaining.

 

UALR expanded their lead to 11 points before Silva knocked in her fifth three-pointer of the night to narrow the lead to eight with 1:24 remaining in the game.

 

Each team exchanged free throw shots with seconds remaining.

 

The Trojans used tough defense to sustain a 10 point lead and the win.
