Trojans Fall to Stephen F. Austin

NACOGDOCHES, Texas?The University of Arkansas-Little Rock committed 18 turnovers in the second half to lose their first contest in four games to Stephen F. Austin 80-45 Tuesday.  The Trojans are now 5-2 for the season.

 

UALR shot 32 percent from the floor compared to SFA recording 49 percent from the floor.  The Ladyjacks out rebounded the Trojans 44 to 29 and committed fewer turnovers with 13 for the game.

 

Heather Morris and Jocelyn Love led all scorers with 15 points.

 

The Ladyjacks (4-3) had three players in double figures.

 

In the first half, SFA scored the first field goal on a layup by Kirby Killingsworth, but Love quickly answered for the Trojans by scoring four consecutive points.

 

The Ladyjacks scored six consecutive points, before Andrea Keys knocked in one free throw for UALR.

 

Both teams would exchange baskets with SFA keeping the edge over the Trojans.

 

At the 7:13 mark, Laura Thoresch knocked in a three-pointer to narrow the lead 18-13.

 

The Trojans forced a Ladyjack turnover and capitalized with a jumper by Love to come within three, but Jamie Ansley scored back-to-back jumpers for SFA to stretch the lead back to seven.

 

With 1:50 remaining until the half, LaToya Mills recorded a three-point play on the jumper and one for SFA.

 

A layup by Jennifer Simpson gave the Ladyjacks their largest lead at nine going into the half 35-24.

 

UALR started the second half with a seven point run on a jumper by Love, a three-point play by Morris, and a layup by Renz.  SFA answered back with a three-pointer by Nikki Carr.

 

After exchanged baskets, Love hit a three-pointer to bring the Trojans within four with 16:54 remaining.

 

The Ladyjacks scored nine unanswered points in two minutes expanding their lead to 13.

 

After Love knocked in a jumper at the 11:21 mark, the Ladyjacks scored 16 unanswered points giving them a 31 point lead.

 

Tamara Humphrey scored the first field goal in five minutes with a layup.

 

SFA capitalized on UALR mistakes and continued making key shots to win 80-45.

 

Arkansas-Little Rock enjoys a four game homestead starting Friday as the Trojans host Arkansas-Pine Bluff.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
