Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?The University of Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans scored 38 points in the second half to edge Arkansas-Pine Bluff 67-50 in the Jack Stephens Center Friday. UALR (6-2) shot 44 percent from the floor but committed 18 turnovers.
“We need some good hearted practices,” said head coach Joe Foley. “We are young, and we are starting to make mistakes. They are starting to magnify on us. We are just not playing real good basketball right now. We have just kind of lost our rhythm. We came back the second half and played a little defense and did a couple of things, but again we are just not playing good basketball right now.”
Renee Renz led the team with her third double-double of the season with a game high of 22 points and 10 rebounds. She also recorded a career and season high of five blocks.
Heather Morris knocked down 11 points and recorded nine assists, while Jessica Brown contributed nine points and tied her career high of nine rebounds.
Demetrice Pryer scored her first three-pointers of the season knocking down two to total eight points on the night, while Jocelyn Love knocked down eight points as well.
A fast break layup by Brown started the first half of the game.
UALR expanded their lead to nine with 12:29 on the clock, but UAPB started to hit baskets while capitalizing on Trojan errors.
At the 10:02 mark, the Lady Golden Lions went on a six point run to cut UALR's lead to two.
Both teams traded baskets with UAPB taking their first lead of the game with 6:11 remaining until half on a layup by Latoya Thomas.
The Trojans increased their lead to four, but the Lady Golden Lions nailed shots and tied the score at 29 at the half.
In the second half, UALR's momentum shifted three minutes into the game when the Trojans scored 11 unanswered points.
UAPB pressed the Trojans and made some key shots, but UALR expanded their lead to as many as 15 points with 8:37 remaining.
The Lady Golden Lions cut the lead to nine with 4:44 on the clock on a layup by Arica Green.
The Trojans continued making baskets and using solid defense to end the game with a 17 point lead.
Arkansas-Little Rock continues their second of four home games against Mississippi Valley State Sunday at the Jack Stephens Center. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
