UALR Wins First Conference Match in Jack Stephens

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—Despite
missing a key starter, Arkansas-Little Rock's volleyball team won their
first conference match of the season defeating Florida International
(30-22, 27-30, 30-20, 30-28) and played their first home match in the Jack
Stephens Center. The Trojans improve to 10-5 on the season.
“I am very glad we
won our home opener,” said head coach Van Compton. “I am proud the kids
came together and played through the adversity of not having Ana (Carolina
Buccini) on the court.”
The Trojan
volleyball match was the first event in the new Jack
Stephens Center.
“Was the Stephens
Center everything I thought it would be?” said Coach Compton. “Yes it is.”
Amila Baracovic
tied her career and season high in kills leading the team with 20, while
Larisa Durmisevic recorded her third double-double of the season with 16
kills and a team high 13 digs.
Ivanka Davidova
knocked down 12 kills, while Megan Naborowski contributed 11 kills.
Ana Carolina
Buccini missed today's match due to family illness.
The Trojans opened
the Jack Stephens Center with a first
game win hitting .353 and knocking down 17 kills. UALR limited the Golden
Panthers to .081 hitting percentage.
Davidova led the
team with five kills.
UALR dropped the
second game to Florida International. The Trojans fell behind early but
rattled off six points to tie the game at 27. Two kills by Laura Vogel
and an attack error by UALR sealed the FIU win.
The Trojans played
strong the third game limiting the Golden Panthers to just .027 hitting
percentage. UALR hit a .345 mark with 14 kills.
Baracovic and
Durmisevic each contributed five kills.
In the fourth game,
UALR bounced back from a six point deficit early on to tie the game at
19.
The Golden Panthers
then rattled off five consecutive points to take back the lead.
Baracovic led the
Trojans during their final comeback knocking down three kills including
the point that tied the game at 28.
An attack error and
ball handling error by Florida International sealed the home court victory
for UALR.
Arkansas-Little
Rock continues their five game homestead with a non-conference match on
Tuesday against Oral Roberts.
