LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?Despite missing starting guard Heather Morris, four Trojans scored in double figures to lead the University of Arkansas-Little Rock over Denver 65-46 at the Jack Stephens Center Saturday. UALR (10-8, 2-3) tied their season high in assists with 18.
“We talked about the loss the other day and how we need to pull together as a team,” said head coach Joe Foley. “Tonight we cam together and it showed on offense and defense.”
Jocelyn recorded her first double-double of the season with a team high of 18 points and 10 rebounds. She was two assists shy of a triple-double recording a career high of eight.
Renee Renz recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and a team high of 10 rebounds.
Jessica Brown and Andrea Keys each contributed 10 points and five boards, while Rachel Smith contributed five points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Denver opened the game with a layup after a steal. Renz answered back with a put back jumper to tie the score at two.
Both teams traded baskets with the Pioneers keeping the edge until the 10:38 mark when Love stole the ball and made a layup to tie the score at 12.
Laura Throesch and Smith answered with jumpers to give UALR the 16-12 lead.
Denver went on a six point run before Renz knocked in a jumper to tie the score at 18.
At the 6:18 mark Love started her eight point run that included two threes to give the Trojans a 26-18 advantage.
Both team exchanged buckets and went into the locker room with UALR leading 29-23.
The Pioneers opened the second half with back to back jumpers to edge within two points.
With 8:01 remaining in the half, Renz knocked in a jumper to start a Trojan ten point run.
The Pioneers hit a three-pointer at the 2:25 mark but could never catch UALR's offense.
Arkansas-Little Rock continues conference action Saturday January 28 against Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m.
