Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?The UALR volleyball team ended the 2006 season with a win over Louisiana-Monroe 3-0 (30-25, 30-21, 30-22) at the Jack Stephens Center Sunday while honoring seniors Sanda Dzile and Ana Carolina Buccini. The Trojans finish the season 13-22 overall and 6-12 in Sun Belt action.
“It is good to see us come back after losing two games in a row at home,” said head coach Van Compton. “It was great to end the season on a winning note and recognize the seniors.”
For the match, Amila Barakovic led the team in kills with 11, while Dilyana Deyanova and Anita Bucur each knocked down eight.
Courtney Hays led the Trojans in digs with 16, while Marina Marinova contributed 12.
ULM put the first point up in game one, but UALR knocked down two straight points on kills by Barakovic and Dzile.
After the score tied twice, the Trojans took the lead and sustained it winning 30-25 on an ULM service error.
In game two, both UALR and ULM knocked down 14 kills, but the Trojans only committed three errors to the Warhawks' seven.
The Trojans jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a kill by Barakovic and an ULM error.
The Warhawks tied the score twice before UALR maintained the lead knocking down as many as four consecutive points.
A kill by Ivanka Davidova won the game for UALR 30-25.
In game three, ULM recorded 18 kills to UALR's 11 but committed 15 errors.
The Warhawks jumped on the board first with a kill by Stephanie Hall.
After the score tied twice, UALR scored five straight points to take the 7-2 advantage.
The Warhawks came within three points, but the Trojans held on to their lead to win 30-22.
After the match the two seniors were honored for their dedication to the UALR volleyball program.
Despite Buccini's season being cut short due to injury, she had a major impact on the UALR defense as she finished ranked second on the team in digs with 375 for 58 games. This season she was ranked as high as fourth nationally in digs for two straight weeks and set her career high in digs with 37 against Lipscomb this season. She has recorded 31 career double-doubles, ten 20-plus dig career matches, and six 30-plus dig career matches. She finished her career ranked second in UALR career digs with 1,179 and fourth in UALR single-season dig records with 375.
Dzile finished the season ranked first on the team in assists with 1,416 and set the UALR single-season record for assists. For her career, she has recorded ten double-doubles and eleven 50-plus assists matches. Earlier this season, she set her career high in assists with 71 against Florida Atlantic setting the UALR individual match record. She finishes her career ranked fifth in UALR career assists records with 2,019. She has been named to the Dean's List and Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List every semester maintaining a 3.65 GPA in Construction Management.
