Box Score ARLINGTON, Texas?With ten seconds left on the clock, Erin Dixon knocked down two free throws to give the University of Texas at Arlington the lead and the win 59-58 Friday at Texas Hall. UTA advances their series lead to 2-0.
Freshmen Kim Sitzmann and Anshel Cooper led the Trojans with 18 and 14 points respectively. Sitzmann also led the team with seven rebounds.
Terra Wallace led the Mavericks scoring all 16 of her points in the second half.
After winning the opening tip, UTA jumped on the board first after Tojjinay Thompson grabbed her own rebound and made a jumper.
Two free throws by Sitzmann tied the score followed by a steal and layup by Jocelyn Love.
After the score tied three times, the Trojans scored on a layup by Cooper to take the 10-8 advantage.
The Mavericks made one of two free throws, before UALR went on a seven point run with points by Cooper, Sitzmann and Nikya Hughes.
At the 9:20 mark, UTA cut the Trojan lead to three with a layup by Meghan Nelson.
After the Mavericks crept within one point of the UALR lead on free throws by Dixon, Andrea Keys knocked down four straight free throws to keep the Trojan's advantage.
The Maverick tied the score at 27 with 3:42 remaining as Ashley Bobb knocked down two free throws.
Within the last minute of the half, Renz scored four straight points to give the Trojans a 34-29 half-time lead.
In second half started at the 17:13 mark when Terra Wallace knocked in her first point of the night for UTA with a free throw.
Over the next four minutes, Wallace scored six points for the Mavericks to keep UTA within one point of the UALR lead.
At the 13:20 mark, the Mavericks tied the score with a free throw by Tiffeny Riles then took the lead for the first time in the half on a jumper by Riles.
After Cooper tied the score on a jumper, Maryann Abanobi knocked down a three for the 42-39 lead.
Over the next three minutes, UALR scored eight straight points including four by Love and Cooper to regain a 47-42 advantage.
The Trojans and Mavericks each scored eight points during the next four minutes.
After both teams went to the foul line over the next two minutes, UTA tied the score at 57 on a layup by Wallace.
With 21.4 second remaining, Hughes went to the line and made one free throw for the 58-57 advantage.
With 10 seconds left, Dixon was sent to the foul line. She sunk two free throws to give UTA the 59-58 advantage.
A last second shot by Sitzmann bounced out, and the Mavericks won 59-58.
UALR continues non-conference action on Monday as they host Rice at the Jack Stephens Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
