Box Score MONROE, La.?UALR forced two overtimes and out scored Louisiana-Monroe 12-4 in the second to win their first conference match-up 66-58 Wednesday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Trojans (7-3, 1-0 Sun Belt) snapped a nine game winning streak by the Warhawks (10-2, 0-1 Sun Belt) and gave them their first home loss this season.
Four Trojans scored in double figures with Nikya Hughes and Anshel Cooper leading the team with 16 points a piece. Renee Renz recorded 15 points, while Kim Sitzmann knocked down 13 points.
Renz, Hughes, and Cooper each led the team with six rebounds.
For ULM, LaJeanna Howard led the team with 18 points.
In the first half, UALR shot 33.3 percent from the floor and committed seven turnovers.
After ULM won the opening tip, the Warhawks put the first points on the board with a jumper by Howard at the 18:42 mark. Cooper answered back for the Trojans to tie the score at two.
Over the next three minutes, ULM held the Trojans to just two points while scoring eight points including back-to-back threes by Howard.
At the 13:25, Sitzmann knocked down a free throw followed by a jumper by Keys to cut the Warhawk lead to five.
ULM put three more points on the board, before the Trojans knocked down five streak points on a three by Renz and a fast break away layup by Cooper to cut the lead to 10-3.
After Sitzmann cut the Warhawk lead to one with a layup, ULM knocked down six straight points to extend their lead to seven with 5:08 until the half.
UALR knocked down four straight points on jumpers by Cooper and Hughes, but the Warhawks brought their lead back to four with a free throw by Ebony Williams.
Free throws by Hughes with 46.4 second until the half cut ULM's half-time lead to two 20-18.
The second half started with turnovers by both teams, before Renz knocked down a jumper to tie the score at 20.
ULM scored three straight points on a jumper by Shannon Lloyd and a free throw by Howard.
Three straight free throws by Hughes and Renz tied the score at 23 with 16:21 remaining.
At the 14:49 mark, Hughes tied the score with a layup, but the Warhawks regain the lead with four straight points.
A jumper by Cooper and a free throw by Renz narrowed ULM's advantage 29-28.
UALR took their first lead of the game at the 6:53 mark when Love knocked down a jumper to bring the score to 34-33.
Four straight points by the Warhawks put ULM back up by three with 4:10 remaining.
Sitzmann knocked down two free throws to bring UALR within one again, but a jumper by Lloyd put the Warhawks up by three.
Both teams exchanged made free throws, before April O'Neal sunk a layup to give ULM a 43-38 lead with 2:02 remaining.
A layup and one by Hughes with 1:32 remaining cut the Warhawk lead to two.
Howard knocked down a jumper with 1:06 on the clock giving ULM a 45-41 advantage, and then missed a free throw opportunity.
With 27.7 seconds remaining, Cooper put the Trojans within two with a jumper.
After Nedra Winston sunk two free throws to edge ULM by four, Renz knocked down a three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining to put UALR back within one.
Howard knocked in two free throws with 19 seconds left for ULM, but Keys sunk a jumper and was fouled with 12 seconds on the clock.
Keys missed the three-point opportunity sending the game into overtime with a score of 48-48 for the first overtime game this season.
ULM put the first points on the board in overtime with a jumper by Moore. UALR answered by with free throws by Cooper.
At the 3:09 mark, Sitzmann recorded a steal and gave the Trojans their second lead of the game 52-50 on a jumper.
ULM tied the score with a jumper and then forced the UALR turnover with 31.2 seconds remaining.
With 10.3 seconds on the clock, Howard knocked in a jumper to give ULM the 54-52 lead, before Sitzmann sunk a layup to send the game into double overtime 54-54.
At the 1:43 mark, Hughes drilled a three-pointer to give the Trojans their greatest lead of 63-56.
After a free throw by Renz, Howard knocked down a jumper for ULM with 35.2 seconds remaining to cut the Trojans lead 64-58.
Two free throws by Cooper gave UALR the 66-58 win.
UALR continues conference action on Saturday as they host Denver at the Jack Stephens Center. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m.
