Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?After a slow first half, the UALR women's basketball team shot 54.5 percent from the floor in the second half to defeat the University of Texas-San Antonio 65-48 for their fifth home win this year Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center. The Trojans improve to 5-2 on the season.
“In the second half, I thought we were a little more patient with our offense, and at the same time, I thought we were a little more aggressive,” said head coach Joe Foley. “I thought we did a good job getting to the hole and driving the ball. I think we did a much better job of picking our shots.”
In the first half, UALR shot 30.8 percent from the floor and was trailing by one at the half 24-23. In the second half, the Trojans out scored the Roadrunner 42-24.
“In the first half, I thought we shot relaxed and shot the three too easy,” said Foley. “We took the first shot that we could.”
Jocelyn Love led all scorers with 20 points including two three-pointers and led the team in rebounds with nine, while Kim Sitzmann knocked down 14 points and led the team with eight assists.
Andrea Keys recorded season highs of 10 points and eight rebounds.
After winning the opening tip, UTSA jumped to a 6-0 lead. Love put the Trojans on the board first with a layup.
UALR then scored four straight points on jumpers by Renee Renz and Love.
The score tied four times before UALR took a two point lead on a layup and one by Love.
A three-pointer Lynsey Freeman gave the Roadrunners a one point lead.
With 1:24 on the clock, Jessica Brown knocked down a free throw to bring the Trojans with one 24-23 at the half.
The second half opened with three-pointers by both teams. A jumper by Cooper at the 18:34 mark gave UALR the lead 28-27.
After Sitzmann made two free throws for a technical foul at the 14:33 mark, UALR did not give up their lead throughout the remainder of the game.
With 1:19 remaining, Keys knocked down a jumper after gaining the rebound from a missed UALR free throw to give UALR the 60-46 advantage.
The Trojans out scored UTSA 5-0 in the remaining minute for the 65-48 win.
UALR continues non-conference action on Thursday as they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to face Southern Mississippi. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
