Box Score 2 WACO, Texas?The UALR volleyball team ended the weekend with a win over New Mexico (30-28, 30-27, 32-30) and a loss to host school Baylor (19-30, 23-30, 16-30) at the Baylor Clarion Invitational Saturday.
Ivanka Davidova received All-Tournament team honors after averaging 2.79 kills (39 total) and 1.29 blocks (2 block solos and 16 block assists) over four matches.
Ana Carolina Buccini was named Outstanding Defensive Player after recording 94 kills for a 6.71 average.
In the first match, Amila Barakovic led the Trojans with 17 kills on 34 attempts for a .441 hitting percentage.
Anita Bucur knocked down 14 kills, while Davidova recorded 12 kills and led the team with five blocks.
Buccini led UALR with 27 digs, while Sanda Dzile recorded 48 set assists.
In game one, UALR took the early 3-0 lead with kills by Barakovic and Davidova. The Trojans sustained the lead until two attack errors allowed New Mexico to tie the score at nine.
The score tied twelve times with the Trojans keeping the advantage. With the score at 28 all, a kill by Barakovic and an attack error by New Mexico gave UALR the 30-28 win.
In game two, the Trojans recorded 20 kills on 40 attempts for a game high .375 percentage.
New Mexico took the early lead and kept it until the Trojans tied the score at 21 on a kill by Bucur.
The score exchanged hands five times before the Trojans held the advantage. UALR won the game with a final kill by Bucur.
The third game of the match remained close with both teams holding the lead. A kill by Barakovic gave the Trojans match point 29-28, but a Trojan attack error tied the score.
An attack error by New Mexico gave the UALR match point for the second time, but the Lobos scored on a kill by Kelly Therkelsen to once again tie the score.
A kill by Barakovic and a service ace by Anelia Petrova gave the Trojans the match.
In the second match, Barakovic led the Trojans with nine kills while Buccini led UALR with 22 digs.
Baylor recorded a .312 hitting percentage for the match, while the Trojans recorded a -.008 percentage.
In game one, the Bears took the early lead and sustained it scoring as many as seven consecutive points. Baylor won the game 30-19 on a kill by Des Guillard-Young.
In game two, Baylor once again took the early lead, but the Trojans tied the score with a service ace by Petrova.
The score would tie nine more times before a Trojan attack error started a two point rally for the Bears.
Baylor kept the lead winning 30-23 on an attack error by UALR.
The host school won the third game 30-16 recording 17 kills and a .432 attack percentage.
UALR continues tournament action on September 8 as the Trojans compete in the Memphis Tiger Invitational in Memphis, Tenn. UALR faces Southeast Missouri State at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
