LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?The UALR volleyball team won its 15th straight meeting over South Alabama 3-0 (30-14, 30-27, 30-22) at the Jack Stephens Center Friday. UALR improves to 13-7 overall and 5-3 in Sun Belt action.
“It was good to be at home and good to win at home,” said head coach Van Compton. “We need to keep the momentum going through this weekend.”
Anita Bucur led the team with 14 kills and in attack percentage committing only one error on 24 attempts for a .542 mark.
Amila Barakovic knocked down 11 kills, while Katie McCutcheon recorded nine kills.
Amy Hafner led the team in digs with 14.
In game one, UALR recorded 13 kills, while South Alabama (7-12, 2-7 SBC) knocked down four and recorded a -.240 attack percentage.
UALR started the game with a 3-0 lead on two USA errors and a service ace by Lenka Melicharkova.
After the Jaguars put a point on the board on a Trojan error, the Trojans held USA to just six points halfway through the game including knocking down 13 straight points.
USA pushed points, but UALR kept them to 14 and won on a service ace by Marina Marinova.
UALR recorded two straight points to start game two, before the Jaguars tied the score on two kills.
The Trojans regained the lead and sustained it with USA coming within one point throughout the game.
With the score 28-27 in UALR's favor, a kill by Bucur and an error by USA won the game for the Trojans.
USA took their first lead of the match at the start of game three on a kill by Brittany Blackwelder.
The score tied six times throughout the game. With the score 15 all, UALR knocked down four consecutive points including three kills by Dilyana Deyanova to take the lead.
UALR won on an attack error by USA.
UALR continues Sun Belt action tomorrow as they host Troy. Match is set for 7 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
