UALR Volleyball Defeats Arkansas State 3-0

JONESBORO, Ark.?The UALR volleyball team defeated in-state rivals Arkansas State 3-0 (30-17, 31-29, 30-24) at the Convocation Center Tuesday.  The Trojans defeated the Lady Indians for the first time since 2005 and improve to 16-8 overall and 8-4 in the Sun Belt Conference.

 

Ivanka Davidova led the team in kills knocking down 13 and in hitting percentage committing only one error on 25 attempts for a .480 mark.  She also recorded seven total blocks including a team high of six block assists.

 

Lenka Melicharkova recorded a team high of 42 assists, while Amy Hafner recorded her 22nd double-digit dig match with a team high of 15.

 

In game one, the Trojans recorded a .312 attack percentage recording 13 kills with three errors on 32 attempts, while ASU recorded a .023 percentage committing 11 errors and recording 12 kills.

 

Arkansas State (9-15, 5-7 Sun Belt) jumped to a 1-0 lead on a kill by Robin Aaron.  UALR tied the score three times, before the Lady Indians took a two point lead on a kill and a service ace.

 

UALR pushed points tying the score at 11 on an ASU attack error.  The Lady Indians tied the score at 13, but the Trojans took the advantage on a kill by Melicharkova and knocked down ten straight points to broaden their lead.

 

UALR held ASU to 17 points for the game and won on a kill by Katie McCutcheon.

 

ASU jumped to a 1-0 lead in game two, but UALR tied the score on a Lady Indian error.  ASU knocked down five consecutive points to regain the lead.

 

The Trojans pushed points tying the score at eight and knocking down eight straight points for the 16-8 lead.

 

With UALR at game point, ASU scored four straight points to tie the score at 29.

 

A kill by Anita Bucur and a set error by the Lady Indians sealed the game two victory.

 

UALR recorded their highest attack percentage in game three knocking down 20 kills with four errors on 36 attempts for a .444 mark.

 

An attack error gave the Trojans the first point of the game, but ASU tied the score on a UALR service error.

 

The score tied seven more times throughout the game with the lead changing twice.

 

UALR won the match on a bad set by the Lady Indians.

 

UALR continues conference action on Friday as they host Denver.  Match is set for 7 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
