BOWLING GREEN, Ky.?The UALR volleyball team lost a five game battle to Western Kentucky 2-3 (25-30, 35-33, 16-30, 30-27, 14-16) at E.A. Diddle Arena Saturday. This was the first time since November 6, 2004 that the Trojans pushed the Lady Toppers past three games.
Amila Barakovic led the team in kills knocking down 18, while Ivanka Davidova contributed 14 kills.
Lenka Melicharkova recorded a team high of 61 assists, while Amy Hafner led the team in digs with 14.
In game one, WKU (17-4, 6-0 SBC) jumped to a 3-0 lead, before Anita Bucur knocked down the first point on a kill for the Trojans.
UALR (12-7, 4-3 SBC) tied the score at five on an attack error by the Lady Toppers. The score would tie nine more times throughout the game.
With the score 22 all, WKU scored four unanswered points including three on Trojan errors.
UALR came within three points, but the Lady Toppers won 30-25 on a kill by Jenna Gideon.
WKU opened the second game scoring the first point on a service ace, but the Trojans pushed points knocking down three consecutive points to take the advantage.
The score tied several times with UALR sustaining the lead. With the score tied at 16, the Lady Toppers took their first advantage of the game scoring three points on a kill by Julia Noe and two Trojan errors.
UALR regained the lead after tying the score at 23 on a kill by Davidova and scoring a point on a WKU error.
The score tied ten times throughout the remainder of the game. With the score 33 all, UALR scored two points on Lady Topper errors to win 35-33.
In game three, WKU jumped out to a 2-0 lead, before the Trojans scored a point on a kill by Katie McCutcheon.
The Lady Topper knocked down two points and expanded their lead to 13-3 over the opening points of the game.
WKU held UALR to 16 points in the game and won on a kill.
UALR jumped to a 1-0 lead in game four on a kill by McCutcheon and expanded their lead to 5-2 over the opening points.
WKU tied the score at 22 and at 27, but the Trojans kept their lead and score three straight points at the end of the game on a kill by Barakovic and two Lady Topper errors to win 30-27.
In game five, UALR jumped to the 2-0 lead on kills by Barakovic and Diliyana Deyanova. WKU fought back tying the score four times before taking the advantage on a kill by Abbie Siljendahl.
The Lady Topper extended their lead to 12-9, but the Trojans knocked down two points on an error and a kill by McCutcheon to come within one point.
Both teams exchanged points with UALR tying the score at 13 and 14 on WKU errors.
The Lady Topper knocked down two straight kills to win the game and match 16-14.
UALR continues conference action on Friday, October 12 as they host South Alabama at the Jack Stephens Center. Match is set for 7 p.m.
