Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?Sophomore Kim Sitzmann and senior Nikya Hughes combined for 45 of the Trojans 76 points as the UALR women's basketball team defeated Southern Arkansas 76-45 at the Jack Stephens Center Tuesday. The Trojans improve to 1-1 on the season.
“We put the upper classmen in the game in the second half with Jessica and Andrea, and I thought we had a rhythm going,” said head coach Joe Foley. “The maturity showed the second half.”
Sitzmann led all scorers with 24 points including going 2-of-2 from the three-point line and led the team in steals with three and in blocks with four, while Hughes knocked down 21 points including a team high of three three-pointers.
Chastity Reed brought down a team high eight rebounds and scored 16 points, while Andrea Keys also recorded eight rebounds.
Asriel Rolfe recorded a career and team high of five assists for the game.
For the Lady Riders, Goldie White knocked down a game high of 24 points.
SAU knocked down the first field goal of the game at the 18:36 mark with a jumper by Calisha Kirk.
The Trojans scored their first points on five straight points by Reed including a three-pointer at 18:14.
UALR scored the next seven points unanswered including five from Sitzmann to gain a 12-2 lead.
The Lady Riders cut the lead to four with back-to-back three-pointers by White. Over the next five minutes, the Trojans out scored SAU 10-7.
After two free throws by White for SAU, UALR knocked down five points off of free throws to maintain a 12 point lead.
In the remaining two minutes, SAU scored five points to UALR's two to bring the score to 31-22 at the half.
The Lady Riders opened the second half with the first field goal on a layup by Shardae Thompson.
UALR scored their first points of the half on a free throw by Sitzmann.
At the 13:09 mark, a three-pointer by Hughes at the 13:09 mark opened the Trojan lead to 13.
SAU pushed points cutting the lead to ten with 5:12 remaining, before the Trojans knocked down eight straight points including four by Hughes to expand their advantage to 64-37.
Over the remaining two minutes, UALR out scored the Lady Riders 12-6 and ended the game on a three-pointer by Reed.
UALR continues basketball action on Friday as they host Grambling. Game is set for 7 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
