UALR Wins First Road Contest 50-43 over Tulsa

TULSA, Okla.?The UALR women's basketball team recorded their first road win of the season with a 50-43 victory over Tulsa Wednesday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.  The Trojans improve to 4-2 on the season.

 

Kim Sitzmann led all scorers with all 17 her points in the first half, while Anshel Cooper knocked down nine points.

 

Andrea Keys contributed seven points and led the team in rebounds with six.

 

After UALR won the tip, the Trojans lost their first position, but quickly regained it as Jessica Brown stole the ball and scored the first UALR field goal on a layup.

 

Tulsa scored their first points on free throws by Larrissa Williams, before the Trojans knocked down eight straight points including five by Sitzmann to gain a 10-2 lead.

 

At the 15:56 mark, the Golden Hurricanes scored their first field goal on a jumper by Teka Brooks.

 

After a jumper by Sitzmann, Tulsa knocked down five straight points including a three-pointer by Tatum Beer to cut the lead to three.

 

UALR scored four straight points on a jumper by Cooper and free throws by Sitzmann, before the Golden Hurricanes edged into the Trojans' lead knocking down four straight points to come within three with 7:37 until the half.

 

Both teams exchanged baskets with UALR keeping the lead, until the 2:04 mark when Chastity Reed knocked down a jumper followed by a three-pointer by Sitzmann to expand the UALR advantage to 27-19.

 

After a jumper by Williams for Tulsa, Sitzmann knocked down a three-pointer with 6.7 second remaining until the half to give the Trojans a 30-21 half-time lead.

 

Tulsa opened the second half with a jumper by Williams.  UALR answered back with a steal by Sitzmann and a jumper by Keys. 

 

Two free throws by Cooper gave the Trojans their greatest lead so far of the game at 32-23.

 

Both team exchanged baskets with Nikya Hughes scoring her first points of the game on a jumper and free throws.

 

The game remained scoreless over the next four minutes until Reed knocked down a free throw for UALR.  Williams cut the Trojan lead to ten with a put back for Tulsa.

 

After the Golden Hurricanes knocked down a basket, Brown scored her first three-pointer this season with 5:35 remaining to bring the Trojan lead to 42-31.  Tulsa answered back with a three-pointer by Kara Vaughn.

 

Both teams made baskets with UALR keeping the edge.  Tulsa knocked down their first free throws of the game with 2:29 remaining to cut the UALR lead to 45-38.

 

Hughes scored on a put back, before the Golden Hurricanes cut the lead to seven with free throws.

 

UALR knocked down three points off of free throws from Keys and Cooper in the remaining seconds.  Beer knocked down a three-pointer with one second left to bring the final UALR victory to 50-43.

 

UALR continues basketball action on Saturday as they host Bradley for their first home double-header of the season.  The game is set for 4:30 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
