Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La.?For the first time since 2004 and the first time in six meetings, the New Orleans Privateers defeated the UALR women's basketball team 66-56 at the Human Performance Center Saturday. UNO went 27-of-31 from the line and out rebounded the Trojans 37 to 24. The Trojans fall to 6-3 overall and 0-1 in conference.
Nikya Hughes led the Trojans in scoring with 20, while Kim Sitzmann knocked down 14 points. Chastity Reed recorded a team high of six rebounds and recorded six points.
For UNO (6-4, 1-0), Jada Frazier led all scorers with 22 points including going 12-of-12 from the line.
After the UALR tip, the Trojans put the first points on the board with a jumper by Hughes. UNO answered back with a layup by Jada Frazier.
Sitzmann scored a three-point play on a layup and one, before UNO took their first lead of the game scoring five straight points.
Both teams exchanged baskets with UNO keeping the advantage. Back-to-back points by Rolfe and Reed gave the Trojans an 11-9 lead.
With 10:53 until the half, Anshel Cooper scored two on a layup followed by a three-pointer by Sitzmann to give the Trojans a five point advantage.
Over the next four minutes, the Privateers out scored the Trojans five to one to cut the UALR advantage to one with 5:40 remaining until the half.
After UNO scored, UALR knocked down four straight points from Hughes and Reed to take a 21-18 lead.
In the remaining three minutes, the Privateers held UALR to no points while knocking down ten with seven coming from Le'Della English to give the Privateers their largest lead of the game at half 28-21.
The second half started with a jumper by Rolfe after a dish by Reed. UNO then knocked down a jumper to keep the advantage at seven.
UALR out scored the Privateers six to three over the next two minutes to cut the UNO lead to 33-29.
After two free throws by UNO, the Trojans cut the lead to one with a three-point play and a jumper by Hughes.
Both teams exchanged baskets with the Privates keeping the advantage. With 7:58 remaining, the Trojans cut the advantage to two with a three-pointer by Hughes.
With 7:05 remaining, UNO scored six straight points while keeping the Trojans scoreless to bring the score to 50-42.
At 3:46, Asriel Rolfe fouled out and drawed a technical foul, while Frazier knocked down four straight free throws to keep their advantage 58-45.
UALR cut the lead to ten with 2:37 on the clock on a layup and one by Sitzmann and a fast break layup by Reed.
After free throws by both teams, Mattilyn McIntyre scored on a layup bringing the score to 61-54 in UNO's favor.
In the remaining 42.5 seconds, both teams shot free throws with UNO holding on for a 66-56 win.
UALR continues basketball action on Thursday as the Trojans host Louisiana Tech. Game is set for 7 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
